CRYOTHERAPY

CRYOPEN TREATMENT

OVER TIME, OUR SKIN LOSES ITS’ NATURAL ABILITY TO BOUNCE BACK LIKE IT USED TO.

Here at Victor & Garth, we use the Cryopen™. Cryotherapy or simply put, cold therapy, uses liquid nitrogen or nitrous oxide to destroy unsightly skin lumps. By freezing the intercellular fluid, the cell membrane is broken down and  the cells are permanently destroyed.

Cryopen™ delivers an ultra-cold jet of high-pressure liquefied nitrous oxide (N2O) to destroy benign lesions, such as warts, skin tags, and age spots. The pinpoint tip ensures accuracy in treating the lesion without affecting the surrounding, healthy tissue.

Cryopen™  is a great choice for skin lesion removal. This device can deliver safe, quick treatments with effective results.

ARE THERE ANY ADVERSE EFFECTS?

Cryosurgery treatments are relatively low risk. There are a few side effects that may occur as a result of treatment, including:

  • Pigmentary changes (hypo-pigmentation and hyper-pigmentation) those with darker skin tones may require treatment with repeated short freezing cycles of 3 to 6 seconds at two-week intervals to reduce the risk of pigmentary change.
  • Nerve damage (particularly in areas where nerves lie close to the surface of the skin, on fingers, wrist, area behind the ear)
  • Shards of ice (minor shards of frozen ice may blow out, that will thaw on contact with healthy skin)
  • Hair follicle damage and permanent alopecia (especially when treating lesions on sites with coarse terminal hair)

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE TREATMENT?

At the consultation, the size and number of lesions will be considered with regard to the final price.

WHAT CAN THE CRYOPEN TREAT?

There are a number of indications for CryoPen™.  CryoPen™ can treat anything from extremely superficial sun spots to lesions up to 5 mm in depth. Here at Victor & Garth we treat the following lesions:

  • Freckles or dark, hyper-pigmented lesions
  • Age/liver spots
  • Seborrhoeic Warts
  • Milia
  • Warts – hands & feet
  • Cherry angioma (red blisters)
  • Verrucas
  • Skin tags

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

Cryopen™ delivers an ultra-cold jet of high-pressure liquefied nitrous oxide (N2O) to destroy benign lesions, such as warts, skin tags, and age spots. The pinpoint tip ensures accuracy in treating the lesion without affecting the surrounding, healthy tissue.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

The penetration rate of freezing is approximately 1mm per 5 seconds, with a maximum freezing depth of 3 to 6 mm depending on the applicator tip used. The duration of the treatment time will depend on the surface area and the thickness of the tissue being treated. Depending on the thickness of the lesion your application time will range from 1 to 30 seconds.

IS IT PAINFUL?

The pain sensation is similar to a ballpoint pen being pushed onto the skin when the nitrous oxide reaches the bottom of the lesion. There might be a little residual stinging for a few minutes after treatment. Occasionally a blister might form and persist for a few hours.
